Since the electronic throttle was developed in the middle of the eighties of the twentieth century, it has gradually been applied on the advanced engines of the high-grade automobiles. Because the electronic throttle not only performs well on the fuel consumption and exhaust of motors, but also can realize the drive by wire, it will be widely applied in the future. But because of the nonlinearity existed in the mechanical parts of the throttle body, how to control the throttle become a difficult question.Fuzzy control is suit for nonlinear and hysteretic system whose model is unknown. Use fuzzy control to modulate the PWM signal for electronic throttle can make it work quickly and precisely.This paper introduces the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) first. The principle and structure of the electronic throttle has been analyzed then. This paper is focused on the nonlinearity of the throttle body, and presents fuzzy control in order to get a good control effect to make the electronic throttle body applied on the automobiles.P8xC591 produced by Philips Company is a single-chip 8-bit-high-performance microcontroller. It uses the powerful 80C51 instruction set and includes the successful PeliCAN functionality of the SJA1000 CAN controller from Philips Semiconductors. It also includes ADC and PWM module and so on. This paper chooses P87C591 to design the hardware circuit for the ETCS. As for software, fuzzy control is used as the kernel arithmetic, and C language is used to compile the whole program.The whole system is tested at the end of this paper. The running curves of the position signal and the control signal are gained and compared. The experiment result shows that, the proposed fuzzy control can fit the application of the ETCS. The experiment obtains good performance of high precision, strong reliability, and fast response, which has a good application prospect.
