With the rapid development of network and digital technology, the information technique has become one key point. High capacity and fast rate recording method is urgently required. Near-field optical recording, as one of the high density recording method, has vast potential and applications in the near future.In this paper one of the near-field optical storage methods is introduced. The theory and development of the high density storage are concluded, based on the content of the design for the fund of high density near-field recording, a system is proposed in which PIN VCSEL and TIP are integrated and installed on AFM cantilever to make system simplified. In the early investment, we first test the spectral and i-p characteristics of VCSELs, and then the topography and optical characteristics of the Ge-Te-Sb film are investigated. Finally the difficulties and prospect are pointed out.Since the topography and size of the probe are important to near-field optical image and recording, at last, we propose a new method which can obtain the size of the probe from its image basing on tip-sample relation. A lot of mathematic simulations are made, and the results are fit with the size of the tip.
