The Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF), which is called Micro-Structure Fiber(MSF) or Holey Fiber, is a kind of fiber that is composed of the cladding and thecore. The 2-Dimension Photonic Crystal forms the cladding, and then a defect isinduced in the centre of the fiber. The light is only propagated in the core due tothe PBG. Because of the big difference in the structure with the traditional fiber,it is different with the traditional fiber in the property, too. And the fabricationof MSF develops very slowly.In this thesis, some basic theories of MSF are introduced, and summarizethe development of the MSF in recent years, especially about the fabrication.And then introduce many methods of the fabrication since the first MSF beingfabricated in the world. This thesis explains the fabrication flow in detail, andconcludes the factors that maybe influence the structure of the MSF based on themathematic model.With experiments, the stacking-capillary method and extruded method areintroduced. And then show the factors that destroy the structure in particular. Bylots of fabrication experiments with these methods, lots of valuable experienceis got. And the fabrication of MSF has been improved.By the improved stacking-capillary method and the new designed method,the MSF without the interstitial hole have been fabricated successfully. Thisnew kind of MSF can hold itself structure during the drawing much better, andby this way, it improved the rate of successfully fabricating the MSF fiber.Although the interstitial holes are eliminated, there is no influence with theproperty of the MSF.We design lots of experiments to test the fiber property using the MSFfabricated in our lab, such as nonlinearity and Photonic Band-Gap(PBG). Thetest results are well. The experiment results match with the mathematic model,and the experiment results have repeated well. It shows that our MSF have verygood performance.
