In this paper, broadband and dual-polarized planar microstrip array antennas in Ku band are studied. Firstly, the transmission-line model, the cavity model and Method Of Moment (MOM) , which are used in the analysis of aperture coupled microstrip antenna, are introduced. Then we introduce the basic theories of array antennas, which include the radiation characteristics of arrays, principal parameters, feed mode, impedance matching network and power dividers.Based on the theoretic analysis, a study is made on broadband and dual-polarized microstrip planar array antennas and a mode of simple structure with good antenna performance is proposed. The antenna element is fed with two H-shaped coupling slots which are vertical for each other. microstrip feedlines are applied to the uniform excitation network which is compact on a layer. We simulate and design the antennas by IE3D simulation. Both the simulated and measured results indicate that array antennas designed have good performance and achieve the need of design on the whole. Finally, we summarize the research of the paper and propose some needed improved problems ulteriorly.
