Since orthogonal DCT has the sub-best performance for highlycorrelated signals,appropriate computational complexity, reparabilityand fast algorithm, it is widelyusedin digital signal processing. For the different fields of use, there come manyforms ofDCT.This paper is composed of two parts: first, a summarize is made for DCT, whichcharacterize the different kinds of DCT, and proposed a improved prime-length DCT;second, prime-length DCT IP core is realized on FPGA based on the verylarge scaleprogrammable technology.Generally, DCT algorithm is proposed for the length of 2~m, but in manyapplications,the DCTof non-2~m length is desire, whose kernel is prime-length DCT. In this paper,an improved algorithm for the prime-length DCT is proposed, which based on thesymmetric properties of prime-length DFT and the mapping between DCT and DFT.Compared with the algorithm available, the proposed prime-length DCT has lesscomputation and regular configuration.The use of IP module can shorten the time of SOC (System On Chip) design but alsoimprove the design efficiency, save workforce, reduce design cost, enhance reliability.But the IP core of DCT is designed for the length of 2~m in mot cases, on the basis ofthe improved prime-length DCT, an IPcore for prime-length DCT is designed on FPGA.The simulation results indicate that this design has simple structure, plain arrangement,and good regularityand modularity.
