One of the most important problems in RF and integrated circuit design is still the analysis of discontinuous structures and the design of the circuit elements. Which has been being extensively treated. In this paper, the principle of PEEC(partial element equivalent circuit) method along with its hypostasis in mathematics and background in physics is discussed in detail. The MPIE is used here to describe the electromagnetic problem with respect to RF integrated circuit. And by dispersing the integral area properly, the MPIE is transformed into a general equivalent circuit problem which is constructed by a series of discrete partial elements. Based on which, some typical microstrip discontinuities are analyzed in this paper. The calculated results agree very well with the measured data. Finally in this paper, a five-port power divider is calculated. The results is compared with the"Designer", witch is the software of the Ansoft company. And the two results are almost the same, but the computing time of the PEEC method is much shorter than the Designer's. This means that PEEC is very suitable for analysis and design of microstrip circuits...
