Synchronization is a key issue in multimedia application, and has received a great deal of attention recently. In this paper, we discuss that existed in Courseware Editing Tool System. First, multimedia synchronization technology, especially under network environment is introduced. Synchronization requirements and the corresponding influenced factors for a generic distributed multimedia applications are analyzed in detail. Then, some popular multimedia synchronization modeling methods such as timeline model, reference point model, hierarchy model and Petri-Net model are analyzed and compared. On the basis of overcoming limitation of the present synchronization model, this paper proposed an improved DEFSM(Dynamic Extended Finite State Machine) and the corresponding control schemes to handle user interactions in distributed multimedia presentation. Through it, we model the procedure of courseware playing in Courseware Tool Project in Distance Educational system. In this way, system developers do not need to deal with the details of multimedia synchronization. In addition, aimed at the drawback of Courseware Tool System in existence, this paper put forward a feasible system project, which can satisfy the actual requirement to School of Network Education in Xidian University. In order to accomplish inter-media synchronization, B-spline interpolation method is introduced to get a smooth transition. As is shown in the final experiment, the proposed model and B-spline interpolation method can achieve sychronization effectively.
