The inevitability and huge damage of network failure make the research on networks survivability very necessary nowadays, especially when the transmission rate becomes higher in optical networks. Segment shared protection is considered as a kind of high efficiency scheme. The status and trend of networks survivability is presented in the paper, and an ultra fast segment shared protection scheme is then given. In the scheme, potential backup bandwidth is also considered when routing algorithm is used to select active path on the links;"2-3-4 partition method"is used to find the best partition, and then ILP model is used to compute the active path's partition and its corresponding backup segments, and in the ILP model adjacent segments can only overlap one link, the length of backup segments could not be longer than a given limit. The simulation result shows that this scheme can reduce the scheme's time complexity.
