With the development of electronic science and technology, the digital system has been applied to many fields. It is necessary to diagnose faults of the circuit board for it's credible running. The fault diagnosis is aimed to detect and orientate the fault of circuit board. In this paper, the fault dictionary which is based on the detection vector created by D algorithm is used as the method of fault diagnosis by analyzing the theory and method of fault diagnosis. Moreover, this method is applied to the input and output circuit board.This paper surrounds generation of fault dictionary and discusses the algorithm of creating detection vector, method of fault simulation and respective characteristics. In this paper, D algorithm is applied to create detection vector, because D algorithm is easy to program on the computer. At the same time, the fault simulation is applied to testify the validity of detection vector. Finally, this paper introduces the project to diagnose fault of input and output circuit board and designs the hardware circuit. In this project, the detection vector created by D algorithm is inspiring to input ports of circuit board and responding signals is collected from output ports. And then, these signals are compared with fault dictionary to orientate faults.It is proved by experiments, the projection can realized the fault diagnosis of circuit board credibly, orientate the fault accurately and achieve the request of fault diagnosis.
