Today along with Hospital Information System(HIS) becomes more and moremature, people continuously deepen and expand to the whole demand of ManagementSystem. In the process of development , system architecture is becomes one of themost important factors to influence the performance of software. The design quality ofthe system architecture could to a large extent affect some important standards such asexpansibility, maintainability and efficiency of the software system.Nowadays the system architecture that has been adopted by most softwaredevelopers and widely used in the development of large Hospital Information Systemis a layered-architecture, also called multi-layered system. The main idea of themulti-layered architecture is to divide the layers of the software system according thedifferent function. The different layer implements the different function in order toachieve the weak coupling between different layers and high aggregation inside layer. Therefore the structure of the software system will become more reasonable, moreeffective and more expansible. In the process of system development, the advantage of two developmentmodel(Client/Server&Browser/Server) are separately drawed. The different clientuses different model, not only is it satisfied with the demand of client, but also canreduce the load of network. On the other hand, the feature of system is the share ofmedical resources and Office Automation. So, The comprehensive HIS is theintegration of PACS and HIS. It is a developmental tendency of future medicalsoftware. At last, this paper will illustrate a project example called the HospitalInformation Management System. The theory of multi-layered architecture design isexpounded. And through the introduction of the characteristics of the HISdevelopment and the relative technologies of the layered-system, it discusses themethod of the layered-HIS development and how to use the components within thismethod. From the analysis of project example, the paper summarizes the advantagesand disadvantages of the design method that has been applied to the layered-systemaccording this project. At present, the system has been normaly used.
