The main idea of our design in this thesis is to implement MPEG-4 video coding onPhilips Digital Video Platform(DVP), making good use of advanced MPEG-4 videocoding algorithms and efficient multimedia data processing and stream softwarearchitecture of Philips DVP, and in the end to work out an applicable videoapplication system on Philips DVP. Because we try to keep the integrity of the videocoding algorithms and the expansibility of the video system when we design andimplement the system, so the system can be used as the basic experimental platformfor some other video application researches of our project team. At the beginning, the thesis introduces the software and hardware environment ofPhilips Digital Video Platform and describes the TSSA stream software architecture aswell as the video subsystem functional components we use to build the whole videoapplication system. The following part of the thesis is mainly concerned with thework we've done in this project. That is to construct the video application system inthe stream mode, to design TSSA video coding component, and to transplant andoptimize the XviD video coding core.
