With the development of computer technology and network technology, distributed measurement and control system has become a trend in measurement and control realm, while based on the same technology, virtual instrumentation is also leading a revolution in such areas. By analyzing and summarizing existing research work, a virtual instrumentation-based distributed measurement and control system solution was proposed and achieved. It provides a network-based distributed system to implement parallel testing of multiple motors, automated load control, real-time monitoring of test parameters together with testing data processing, display and network sharing. The principle of distributed measurement and control system organization were presented in the first place. Based on this principle, hardware architecture was proposed consisting of compact Field Point distributed real-time I/O system, PCI multifunction data acquisition system, SCXI signal conditioning system and dynamometer. According to selected hardware configuration, LabVIEW and LabVIEW RT module were chosen as the software development platform and TCP/IP protocol as the network communication method to implement remote data sharing and distributed measurement and control. Also testing control module, network communication module, and measurement modules of torque, speed, power, and temperature were described in detail. Finally, PID control and curve fitting algorithm were discussed together with testing data analysis. The achieved automated motor testing system has been applied in industry field and performed with high expansibility, reusability, stability, accuracy and efficiency, which dramatically improved the automation and efficiency of motor testing.
