High power fast axial flow(FAF)CO2 lasers are more and more widely used in laser processing. The smart and micro control systems are more and more favoured by the FAF CO2 lasers. So a kind of the head control panel system about the FAF CO2 laser is designed and manufactured. The thesis is mainly divided into three parts: the unit of the keyboard & LCD, the A/D conversion and the unit of communication. First of all, the trend of the development of the FAF CO2 laser and its processing system are introduced. Then, the functions and requirements of the system are put forward. The operation process and primary principle of the FAF CO2 laser control system are analyzed in detail. The theories are mainly studied of the pressure control system and the power control system. Based on the analysis and study, the head control panel of the FAF CO2 laser is designed, which is centered on the AT89C52 singlechip. Secondly, it is spreaded from the keyboard and the display with the LCD in the thesis, which is mainly expatiated on the control theory and the design method for the keyboard & LCD. Meanwhile the LCD operation control instruction and the design vision of the words and characters are analyzed. Thirdly, in the chapter of the on-line control panel the feasibility of the A/D conversion which converts the analog signal to the digital signal is discussed. The following contents are about the design of the conversion circuit based on the chip-MAX114. Next it is about the project of the unit connecting with communication which is based on the MAX485E chip, then the implementing methods from its hardware and software are presented. Lastly, the performance of the control system is evaluated by the experiment. This control panel features high reliability, simple operation, friendly interface and strong flexibility, but also cheap cost.
