Pellet, which determines the development level of iron and steel industry in a large part, is one of the important resources to produce iron and steel. However, the situation that automation is not used widely, quality and output of pellet do not meet the requests, exists now. And the competition becomes more and more intense. So it is pressing for pellet plant to take action to improve output and quality. To make full use of the existent instruments and protect investment, automation reconstruction is a method with high value to cost radio. The development of modern control theory and computer technology provides more solutions to realize process automatic control. The paper introduces the production status and intending trend of shaft furnace palletizing, technological flow of the whole factory,and the relations among different sections. Then the technological flow and problems of the drying section which need to solve are discussed in detail. According to the design rules and development process of computer control system, a set of control system for the drying section of shaft furnace pellet plant is designed. First the hardware of the control system is designed, including the structure of the control system, kinds of the selected instruments, methods of connections and communications to each other. Secondly, the configuration for the monitor and control software is talked about, realizing field data acquisition, real-time and historic data management, alarm giving, flow control, picture display, trend curve, report forms output, etc. At the last, Based on mechanism analysis of drying process and system modeling, control arithmetic is given out. The result of practical use is satisfying. This control system can meet the requests of the technological flow, decrease the workers'intensity and cost, improve the production efficiency.
