Data acquisition means to acquire data information automatically from analog or digital devices. Data acquisition systems (DAS for short) use the technology of computer and automatic control to implement it. With the development of manufactory automation, DAS had been widely used in different fields. The objects of DAS are different devices which have different parameters and different interfaces. This makes it difficulty to design a DAS. In this thesis we propose a generic architecture to assistant the design of DAS. The meaning of doing that is to get reusability and to implement the interoperability of the devices in the DAS.In this thesis we analyze and conclude the generic characteristics of DAS in a novelty way, and then propose a generic architecture of DAS .The architecture has three tiers, which are user interface tier, business object tier and data-base tier. A real device in the DAS we call it Device Item. We class device items into different Device Models by the function implemented by device items. Device Item and Device Model belongs to business object tier. We define Monitoring Criteria and Data Set to control the accession of information, which belongs to data-base tier. Finally we defined roles to describe the boundary of the DAS, and it belongs to user interface tier.In order to get the generic architecture, the main work we do is as follows: (1)analyzing DAS and conclude the generic characteristics of DAS; (2) investigating Data Acquisition Standards and using them to be the foundation of our architecture; (3) on the basis of analyzing and researching the DAS and DAS standards, we use object-oriented method to descript the three aspects of the architecture. the three aspects are the objects, main functions and actions of the DAS; (4) to be more generality, we choose UML as the description to descript the DAS. Using UML to descript the architecture, we often give two kinds of models— one is conceptual model, the other is role-based use case model. Conceptualmodel is a kind of static model , we use it to descript the objects of the DAS. We use role-based use case model to descript the functions and actions of the DAS; (D using the architecture to assist the design of DAS in area of aluminums producing.From the studying of above contents, we carry out a generic architecture of DAS which is composed of conceptual model and role-based use case model. By applying it into aluminums producing data acquisition system, we prove that using the architecture to assist design of concrete system is feasible.
