This paper gives a detailed analysis on Chinese Book Publication Almanac (CBPA), an authoritative serial publication concerning the products of Chinese book publishing industry.The fist part describes the historic background of how CBPA came into existence and its cultural value basing on a brief summary of its former edition A Comprehensive Dictionary of Chinese Book Publishing.The second part develops an analysis on the first ten volumes of CBPA, the achievement of which throughout the structural development of its content, and its current problems.The third part is a comparison of CBPA with similar publication almanacs abroad, as well as Chinese Publication Almanac (CPA). The emphasis is placed on the comparison and contrast between CBPA and similar publication almanacs in Japan and South Korea: their guidelines of compilation, structure of content, and style of design. The comparison between CBPA and CPA concentrates on their structure, content, searching system, and format and cover designing.The fourth part accounts for the change and the significance of which in CBPA 2004 from several aspects: the improvement of the mode of management, the construction of the reservoir of compilers and writers, and the advancement of content quality. Moreover, the reflections on CBPA 2004 included in this part are also applicable to the current practice in compiling CBPA series.The fifth part formats a blueprint of future CBPA, providing practical strategies on the ideas of reforming guidelines, enriching contents, speeding up compiling and publishing process, and developing CBPA related products, thus bringing forth the conclusion of this paper, which is the brand name strategy of CBPA..
