With the development of information and technology, software has been used in every fields, such as business, industry, agriculture, military affairs, amusement and so on. Good quality or bad quality of software will directly affect the benefits of software development businessman on economy. Only the products with good quality will bring long-term economic benefits and loyal customers. Considering the fundamentality and impending of software quality problem, multifarious method and technique for improving software quality are put forward. Software testing is the hard core of software quality and the important means to control software quality. It is the unique means to verify whether software can achieve the expectant functions. If software testing was executed, every kinds of fault/failure in software can be funded. Software testing assures validity of software development procedure and assures the good quality and usability of developed software.In fact, software testing is engineering; it is a necessary sub-engineering of software engineering. It acts an important role in whole software development. It is the key process areas of software quality assurance. This paper focuses on the software developing V model, W model, H model and software life cycle model that have been popularized in software testing industry; and expatiates on the software testing purpose, principle, conception, category, phase, technique, the category of fault and how to use testing tools. Based on the above description, with an eye to the actual situation of software product/project on B/S system, this paper also analyzes how to write test plan; select test strategy; assign test resource; design test case; select test tools for function test, performance test, and test management; execute test, track bugs, and analyze bugs. Thereby, the capabilities of software development group and software quality are improved.
