On the precondition of researching CAD/CAM technology, computer graphics and knowledge in woven industry, we improved an existing woven texture appearance simulation system. This original system works on yarns as basic cell. From yarns, the system gets diameter, color and other useful information. Besides, different arrangement of yarns and weave pattern also should be obtained to simulate the texture. This system is not accurate and realistic enough, especially simulating at the close viewing distance. In the new system, not only the fabric related aspects are considered, it also take the environment aspect into account. This paper introduces the illumination model. It researches the geometry component of woven texture and the light interactions happen on the surface of the fabric. Then it proposes two models for light reflection and light transmission. The system gets the BRDF functions of both models and using these models to calculate and simulate the final image. We choose a micro-facet based BRDF function as a balance of accuracy and operating complexity. It fulfills the requirement of realistic rendering while greatly decreases the complexity. Using BRDF in simulating system can generate different levels of simulation of the same fabric. All the results are realistic. Using BRDF also makes the application more common.
