In this paper, a design pattern and architecture of the .NET framework-based PDM systems is constructed to meet the requirement of functional developments and system upgrading in Dalian heavy industry group, by analyzing the common architecture of current PDM systems and explaining the .NET best practices for building enterprise n-tier applications. A performance-optimized and scalable data access model is presented on the basis of the theory of the Factory Design Pattern, with reflection being used to dynamically load the correct data access objects at runtime, by research into the design method of data access layer. The core business component and data integration interface is designed in detail on the basis of component design idea. The applicability and practicability of PDM system presented in the paper is showed with the implement of the PDM system in Dalian heavy industry group.First of all, the character and design method of .NET framework-based enterprise n-tier applications is explained in this paper. The common architecture of current PDM systems is described. And the architecture of the .NET framework-based PDM systems is constructed with applying .NET-related technology to the design of PDM system. Furthermore, a performance-optimized and scalable data access model is presented on the basis of the theory of the Factory Design Pattern.Secondly, the functional requirements of core business components in PDM system which include Product Structure Management, Work Flow Management and Material Code Management, etc, are extensively explained in the paper. The data model of core business components is abstracted, the architecture of the application is constructed and the business components are designed in the form of software. Moreover, the accessorial business components are designed in order to consummate the PDM system's function.Finally, the significance of data integration interface is described in the paper. The design of the data integration interface including the import of Excel-based BOM, the import of AutoCAD-based BOM, the export of Excel-based BOM, etc, is accomplished successfully, which indicates the validity and practicability of the data integration interface presented in this paper.
