This paper analyzes the thought of MDA (Model Driven Architecture) and applies the thought to R&D of Management Information System (MIS); then brings forward the system design method based on MDA. Through the method, system design can be separated from concrete technologies in order to resolve practical problems of R&D of universities' MIS.This paper sums up the problems in software development of universities' MIS at present and investigates the main thought of MDA and the characteristics of R&D of universities' MIS. According to these, this paper brings forward the metamodel concept of MIS and the system design method based on MDA.The method makes system design separate from concrete technologies to reuse the former system designs; it makes the designs of function, database and user interface synchronize to ensure the consistency of the same business description; The concrete models that the designstation generates is transformed into executable systems and the method embodies the model driven character. As an organic part of auto generate tool of universities' MIS, the designstation not only can finish the system designs, but also can supply data interface for the code generator and database generator. Meanwhile, with the point of view of designs of function, database and user interface, this paper analyzes the designstation in detail. This paper adopts RDBMS to store information of system models, also adopts Object-Oriented technology and C# of Microsoft. In order to enhance stability and expansibility, the system is divided to display layer, data layer, operation layer and storage layer. And it uses the interface to exchange data between these layers. This paper studies the realization of the processes and arithmetic of process organization, process functions and role-based access control in detail.Through the concrete practice, in contrast to the traditional method, the method based on MDA of this paper is capable of improving to reuse former system design and ensuring the quality of the software development. The practice also shows that the approaches of the paper are effective and practicable.
