With the development of computer technology, communication technology and the in-depth application of the Internet, more and more embedded systems are running around us. The embedded systems is becoming the center of interest in the IT industry and exhibiting broad potential market. Meanwhile, a lot of embedded applications are calling for better performance and functionality of embedded systems. ARM is the leading provider of 32-bit embedded RISC microprocessors. ARM offers a wide range of processor cores and delivering high performance together with low power consumption and system cost, high performance and specific THUMB instrument set. With the development of the domestic embedded applying fields, ARM must be widely recognized and applied. In all kinds of embedded operating systems, Linux has the advantage of clear structure and open source, so it has been widely used in embedded system based on monitoring system and PDA. This thesis intends to build an embedded hardware and software developing platform based on ARM9 processor and Linux, and offers the overall solution to the user.Firstly, this thesis introduces some general information about embedded system, among which the ARM processor that takes a key role in embedded micro-processor family is introduced. The powerful function of S3C2410A which is an ARM9 processor used in the design is illuminated detailedly. After analyzing the functional requirement of this system, a total solution of the system is proposed. Then the design of hardware circuit and PCB is discussed in detail. The hardware of this system is designed with Cadence PCB systems. Under the rules of high-speed circuit design, the SI simulation of the high-speed circuit is carried on, which make sure the hardware system reliability. According to actual circuit, this thesis also discusses how to port Linux to this arm platform. Finally, the thesis summarizes the main research work and makes a prospect of the future combining the developing platform with advanced technology of information industry.
