Multicast is a new technology with high efficiency for network transport. It is group-oriented and the transport type of it is some like broadcast and unicast. The technology of multicast can reduce bandwidth and alleviate the server load, so it has been applied broadly. But there is also a question which has blocked its further use. That is about security.Although unicast security is well researched, multicast communications is more likely to be attacked. Therefore multicast communications need more attention on security. The requirements on its security include secrecy, group member identity, source identity, anonymity and integrity. In multi-communications, the question of how to share information with special exclusion belongs in the category of key management of multicast. The emphases of this paper are to find a way for key management of multicast to generate, issue and update keys and to solve the problem of expansibility, robustness and reliability. Firstly, this paper drew a parallel between typical protocols of key management for multicast such as GKMP protocol, Iolus protocol, etc. and analyzed them on architecture, amount of keys, key updating and single point of failure. Secondly, by analysis, the author found that the common defects of the protocols of key management for multicast are that single point of failure may emerge and the lack of easy-upgrade. Thirdly, a robust, updatable and extendable protocol for group key management is proposed.. Fourthly, analyzed the new protocol by using BAN logic. Finally, realized the updating of key by JSSE.
