Chaos, as one of the important parts of the nonlinear science, is very popular. And it relates to communication because of its characteristics, so chaoticsynchronization becomes the essential point in secure communication. Chaotic securecommunication has strong potential in secure communication. For the practical application, two methods of realizing chaotic synchronizationhave been researched, and the methods consist of impulsive synchronization andadaptive synchronization. In the process of discussion, theoretic analysis andnumerical simulation have been integrated and they provide theory and experimentfoundation for practical application of chaotic and hyperchaotic synchronization. In the method of impulsive synchronization, both continuous system anddiscrete system have been discussed. We validate that the method is effective in somesystems via theoretic analysis and numerical simulation. The impact of outer noise onimpulsive synchronization also has been discussed for practical application, and theresult shows the method is robust. In the method of adaptive synchronization, two kinds of adaptivesynchronization have been discussed, including adaptive synchronization based onobserver and the parameter adaptive synchronization. We discuss the correctness ofthe method in chaotic and hyperchaotic systems by the means of theoretic analysisand numerical simulation. In the secure communication, we describe the development status firstly, andthen introduce the basic principle. After that, Drive-response synchronization andadaptive synchronization based on observer are applied in chaotic securecommunication. All the schemes have achieved perfect result, and they provide abundant theoryfoundation for the practice application of chaotic and hyperchaotic synchronization,so they have instructional meaning.
