This thesis describes a benchmarking driven ASIP design methodology. According the standardized benchmarks it provides an objective method for assembly instruction set and processor architecture design. And than a advanced improvement advices will be performed base of the benchmarking results.ASIP which is the abbreviation of Application-Specific instruction set processor has better performance comparing to the general purpose DSP processor. It's a good trade-off between the performance and the flexibility of the processor. Benchmarking is a way to measure performance of a computer system. More specifically, benchmark is a program used to quantitatively evaluate computer hardware and software resources. The aim that we perform the ASIP benchmarking is to evaluate the workload of the targeting ASIP processor. This thesis will practice the benchmarks which is composed of DSP kernel algorithm benchmarking and application benchmarking in targeting ASIP according to the ASIP oriented benchmarking methodology referenced by BDTI, EEMBC. After that we will get the conclusion of the benchmarks and make a design exploration decision combining with the quantitive performance on the expected ASIP architecture. And we will suggest an improvement in the instruction sets and the architecture of the targeting ASIP at the last.
