With the improvement of people's living situation, the requirement to milk increases day by day, and the enhancement of the total milk output become urgent. Through the developed country's experience, the enhancement of the milk product is mostly due to the dairy cow's breed improvement. Dairy cow type linear appraisal is an important content of dairy cow optimizing breeding task, whose primary purpose is predicting dairy cow producing milk ability by appraising, at the same time estimating breeding value and organizing selecting breeding scheme and so forth. Aim at the problems of manual measuring of dairy cow's shape parameters: low efficient, low precision, the results easily effected by the technique level and fatigue level of worker, and the precision of measure tools, the research used computer vision technology to measure the main shape parameters of dairy cow. And the research set up a information management system to manage image information. The main contents and results of the dissertation as follows:(1) According to the property and the demand of the study, the factors affecting system performance were analyzed. On the basis of considering the ratio of performance and price, hardware was chosen to setup the computer vision system.(2)In order to get image of reflecting dairy cow integer, use camera to aquire dairy cow image respectively from such three directions as positive frontage, positive rear and positive side, then input computer through image acquisition board digitalization.(3)Applying reference object demarcate method to measure type character parameters, which makes camera's focus taking no effect on image acquisition course, and which bring quite convenient to measurement.(4)Using template matching method to locate rapidly feature point, so that the measurement of most character for dairy cow may convert to measure the distance between two points or angle among three points, which reduce to dairy cow type linear appraisal course.(5)Adopting virtual instrument software development platform—Lab VIEW and image processing software package—IMAQ Vision to develop interactive measurement application system, and build dairy cow type linear appraisal systembased on image processing.
