Based on comprehensive surveys of traditional modular design and its application, the modern computer aided modular design(CAMD) is introduced in this dissertation. The basal theory such as module encoding, partition and selection in CAMD is emphatically studied, and then some innovative opinions are proposed.Aimed at the application of computer aided modular design, integrated with the encoding method in group technology (GT), the "Class-Type-Series" three layers' module partition model is proposed, then the frame of the combined encoding system is given out. Followed by, the constitution of basal layer, middle layer and application layer is detailedly showed , and an application is carried out to demonstrate its feasibility. According to the intact process of modular design, the converted model among customer demands, product requires and module information is put forward in this dissertation . For the conflict between the best configuration and combining explosion, the coefficient of module selection is defined in this dissertation, by which the combining explosion is controlled. Furthermore, an algorithm of module selection which is based on fuzzy theory is brought forward in this dissertation, and the reliability is validated by an example. In order to carry out some primary gropes for the theory advanced here, a prototype of CAMD is established, and the particular designing process is given. At last, the run instance is demonstrated in this dissertation.
