The performance of theInternet has become an important issue,as theInternet is being widely deployed all over world。The technology of networkperformance testing is improved quickly in recent years. It provides anapproach to assess the performance of network interconnection device andnetwork system for both the vendor and the user. The network performancetester is a device for implementing network performance testing, which issignificant for network application in the real world.In this thesis, the method of designing a network performance tester isintroduced based on theoretical analysis and practical work, which can directthe design of a network performance tester. First, some technical backgroundand the development in network performance testing is investigated. Then,network performance test model is proposed by explaining what to measureand how to measure in the performance testing. Secondly, the functionalprinciple is discussed in designing a network performance tester, and thefunction model of performance tester is proposed. After this, this thesisanalyzes the key technical points in functional design of performance tester.Thirdly,three typical kinds of performance tester architecture are describedand compared, and the hardware design in architecture is given. Based onthese analysises, a comprehensive analysis in the principle and technique ofdesigning a network performance tester, is given in this thesis. At last, somemodules in performance tester for 10G Port are designed, and the streamsampling solution is implemented to solve the problems in long-timeperformance test which is proved by experiment.
