MultiProtocol Label Switch is an improved technology against the traditional IP technology, MPLS OAM provides users with status about Label Switch Path (LSP) independent from any other layers, and it provides abundant diagnostic interfaces about LSP for network administrators as well. The main wok about MPLS OAM in this thesis is as follows:1. At first, this thesis expatiates on MPLS and MPLS OAM, and on the point of realization, dispart the whole MPLS OAM into five modules, such as code and decode packet, defect detection, available state machine, timer, and configure module, this thesis gives a detailed description about the functions on the five modules and relationships among them.2. Give some improvement on the MPLS OAM, such as using Auto-protocol to solve the problem of asynchronies of configuring and starting MPLS OAM, using label stack technology to solve the problem of not supporting shared reverse LSPs, Penultimate Hop Popping and MultiPoint to Point LSPs, also the problem of frequency of sending Backward Defect Indication (BDI) packets.3. Unite the MPLS OAM and Protection Switching to satisfy network performance and switching better.
