Single carrier modulation and demodulation have been applied widely in wireless digital communication system, and it is an important research aspect. In this thesis, the basal channel characteristic of the wireless system is introduced. After that, it describes the principle of the single carrier modulation and demodulation system, and the main task of this paper is to research the channel equalization technology in the wireless digital communication system. According to the characteristics of the wireless channel and the single carrier modulation system, the appropriative algorithms and structures for the channel estimation and equalization are proposed, simulated, validated and optimized to improve the performance. In this paper, research of the equalization has been developed in two aspects. Based the advantage and disadvantage of the single-carrier time-domain equalization, in order to reject the more serious ISI, novel algorithm should be proposed and the structure should be improved. Another way, single carrier transmission scheme with frequency domain equalization (SC_FDE) is provided by IEEE 802.16a standard, which is also discussed here. This paper introduces the signal frame structure design of SC_FDE system and the method to generate pilot signals (Unique word), it validates the effectiveness of frequency domain equalization algorithm and improved method.
