Since the Xilinx company developed the first Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) in 1985, FPGA has become one of preferred programmable logic apparatus in electronic design application market. From aviation to digital signal processing, and to consumption field such as car and home appliances, we can see FPGA everywhere. And with the progress of micro-electronics technics, the capability of FPGA improves year by year, which makes FPGA more competitive with other similar devices. But in this era that all kinds of electronic devices have their own position, consumers need to have a deeper understand to these electronic devices, and choose a proper one for their scientific research or industry manufacture, and this device must fulfil both in every capability target and economical price. Thus, the research in FPGA's application and the analyse of different electronic products' capabilities contrast is a valuable and significant job.This dissertation is based on the study achievement of predecessors and face to the practical requirement. This dissertation analyses the application of FPGA in structure, principle, capacity, power expend and cost. After reading a great deal of literature and information, firstly, this dissertation analyses FPGA's structure and capability, include compare of mainstream FPGA products and of FPGA and other logic devices. Secondly, this dissertation discusses the practical realization in DSP, microcomputer, cost calculation system in taxi and radar digital unit, and analyses the advantage of FPGA.According to abundant analyses and research, this dissertation completes compare both in FPGA products and with other logic devices, and make relevant suggestion to the analyse results. Recur to the analyses of FPGA's practical application in four aspects, we see FPGA has a perfect performance in arithmetic application, controlling and simple logic application, which indicates that FPGA is apt to be generalized.
