In this paper, there is the author's opinion about the communication in industrial fields after comparing some typical embedded Ethernet-accessed ways and the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages. Accordingly, the paper gives a design of embedded Ethernet-based communication module, which is on base of the application of 8-bit MCU, RTL8019AS and other chips. And the instruments could be connected to this module by RS-232. All of the system resources in the embedded systems are scared and invaluable. Then the TCP/IP protocols should be reduced to some extend in order to satisfy the corronding needs. So ARP, IP, TCP, andUDP are choosed and coded in C51. Then the modules are loaded into the MCU to act as the basic platform for TCP/IP-based communication. Recently, the web-based application has become the trend of industrial control software. So the HTTP is also coded so that the module could become the server to the remote clients and transmit the requested data to them. The research on the real-time performance of Ethernet and the compatibility between the field bus and the Ethernet , which once were the constraints for the applications in field communication, is another focus in the industrial communication. The paper gives the detailed discussion about them. Finally, this paper shows the methods to carry out the experiments on the module to test the performance and verify the reliability and validity. It is proved that the design of embedded Ethernet-based communication module is useful to improve the performance of communication and is valid in smoothing the abstacles in communication between the field bus and the Ethernet. And it is concluded from the experiment that this module could be valuable in the field of industrial control.
