Three typical space-time codes such as layered space-time code, space-timeblock code (STBC) and space-time trellis code in the multiple input and multipleoutput system have been investigated systematically, and the detailed analysis andcomparison of diversity gain and coding gain for each of the codes have been madeusing the existing simulation results in this dissertation. To overcome thedisadvantage of STBC, a new coding scheme capable of improving the code rate hasbeen designed based on the expanded space-time orthogonal matrix sets and theclassical set partitioning technique. In the scheme, turbo code frame is introducedinto the concatenation of STBC and multiple trellis code modulation. Furthermorethe recursive design of the component code, the choice of expanded space-timeorthogonal matrix sets and the transfer of the external information in the gradeddecoding are studied intensively.
