In the process of Internet development, database technology is used widely. With the development of ecommerce between business Websites, the data exchange of heterogeneous database has been more and more frequently, and the burgeoning XML(extensible marked language) has a great advantage in data store and data exchange, so it rapidly becomes a data format standard that is insensitive to platform and producer. Through the interface that is provided for heterogeneous database system of all kinds of business Websites, the visit has the access of visiting the database on any platform with the help of XML, and can put out the result to other platforms in the form of XML, so the database exchange of heterogeneous database has been realized. This thesis analyses a concept of realizing data exchange between heterogeneous databases using XML middleware. In the concept, a middleware is designed and realized based on XML technology between the client (or browser) and database server, and the communication between the middleware and the database server is realized through XML. With the help of structured XML based on text, the database information can be described precisely using a common language. At the same time, this thesis realizes the conversion from relative database to XML Schema in order to precisely describe the structure information of XML file itself. The structure and data of the database become lucid and clear after being extracted to XML format, and is very suitable to Internet data exchange. In the process of writing XML data to the database, the relational restriction of database structure is considered in order to ensure the correct updating of database information.
