Video surveillance system is becoming one of the important means of modernization management, monitoring and control, for it has the features of reflecting the object vividly and truly in real time. With the development of modern electronic technology, the surveillance system comes to be developed from analog to digitized system. Comparing to traditional multimedia surveillance system, the embedded DVRs(digital video recorder) has the characteristics of low cost, high stability, good real-time character ,easy management , mass of data storage and etc ,so it has good application and development prospect. The thesis introduces advantage and key techniques of the embedded DVRs at first. A kind of digital record system with hard disk based on MPEG-4 (Moving Picture Expert Group 4) is designed and implemented, and the video processing system regards embedded microprocessor SC2200 as the core, adopts RTOS(real-time operating system) as the software platform, controlling special-purpose chip VW2010, which realizes video signal compression by MPEG-4 standard .It deals with writing, reading and searching data from hard disks. The system can support 8 channels surveillance in real time and one channel playback at the same time. The flexible setup for several kinds of video format is designed, in order to adapt to the application of the different occasion. The design scheme of the software and hardware of DVRs control system, the block diagram and the realization of each module are discussed especially in the thesis. A user interface model on the basis of Event-Object driven is analysed. The control system in embedded system is developed, which adapts the method of Finite State Machine, and acts that transplant real-time kernel μC/OS-II on MCU MSP430F149 as development platform. During realizing, the real-time system development approach of many tasks is analysed in detail, the division of the systematic task, Inter task Communications and data processing based on FSM. Comparison between the development on real-time kernel with the traditional Foreground/Background one is presented, which focused on real-time performance, resource management, maintainability and portability. The testing theory, testing ways and testing result of system are presented finally.
