Digital TV certainly will have a bright future in the 21st century. Many governments have taken measures to accelerate the development of it. Digital TV STB (Set Top Box) is the foundation of digital TV industry. This paper studies the technologies of digital set top box based on the background. The thesis mainly discusses the design and the implementation of DVB receiver. The present situation of the development of the digital TV industry and the future of set top box are introduced firstly. Then the architectures of hardware and software are briefly described, and key technologies of RTOS STLite/OS20 used in the system are analyzed thoroughly. Then how to debug the hardware is discussed. The answers to the common problems you will face with are given also. Then the thesis deeply discusses the principle of the module demultiplexer and how to use it in software. At the end of this thesis, it discusses the theory and the implementation of the conditional access system and software upgrade system. The feasibility of methods for designing and implementing the modules described in this paper has been proved by experiments and practice. The STB has been turned into practical products.
