With China's entry into WTO, telecommunications industry faces new opportunities and challenges. It is urgent for telecom service providers to reduce the service cost and raise employee's efficiency by providing self-service. Currently, the self-service terminal for telecom can only offer limited functions, such as displaying and printing charge. Therefore, the design and implementation of a self-service system which can offer more telecom services is the target of this paper.In recent years, with the development of the networking and communication technologies, Video Conference System based on network has become a hotspot in this research field. This paper designs a solution to extending functionalities provided by self-service terminal through applying real-time Video Conference System technology into self-service system. First of all, this paper introduces the status of the development of self-service in telecom field , based on which , the background and significance of interaction self-service system are opened out . Secondly, this paper analyses and designs the network topology, logical structure of this system and multimedia communication module. Finally, this paper introduces implementation of an interaction self-service system for telecom based on NetMeeting SDK using COM objects. The system uses multithread technology to deal with the problem that many self-service terminals access the server concurrently. After adding video conference function , the self-service terminal can provide more services ,such as opening an account, which other self-service terminals without conferencing function cannot offer. In other words, such self-service terminal can transact almost as many services as the service hall. Therefore, the self-service system with conferencing function will greatly relieve pressure of the service hall.
