A Study On Social Vulnerable Groups Reporting

Social vulnerable groups reporting, in its narrowest sense, means all news coverages focused on social vulnerable groups though, this dissertation will take more into account. Coupled with a thorough-and-close study on all the news stories concerned, this dissertation will place key emphasis on the connection between mass media and social vulnerable groups, which will necessarily involves news-covering mechanism, skills and discourse right of social vulnerable groups. Chapter One in this dissertation specifically defines "social vulnerable groups" afterwards, probes into current stage of its reporting which finds its best expressions in following 3 aspects: China news-covering prize, vulnerable groups reporting column, professional media for vulnerable groups, plus with multi-functional consequences discussions. In Chapter Two, media images of vulnerable groups are paid adequate attention to, which introduces us to a conclusion that mass media have failed to present the TRUE images of the groups. Chapter Three turns to a full and complete analysis on two impressive cases: "Sun zhigang" and "Payment failure of workers from rural areas", by which media news-covering mechanism and skills are taken into a close look. Chapter Four, based on its former, goes into details about the specific terms between mass media and the vulnerable groups, and one step further, the causes and reasons behind are staged into a full perspective that are responsible for the defects in vulnerable groups news reporting.
