China Telecom's dense wavelength division multiplexing[1] (DWDM) network management system is a central Network Management System(NMS) of China Telecom's DWDM backbone. During the design phase, the development team encountered many difficulties such as complexity of system functionality, variety of system requirement, hard to control requirement's change, .etc. In order to improve the system flexibility and expansibility, reduce the coupling between the different modules in DWDM system, we use the Message Oritented Middleware[2] (MOM) design thinking in the design of system architecture to design and develop a Java based DWDM message server.This article describes the detail of different development phases of DWDM message server, including requirement analysis phase, design phase, implement phase and test phase.In the requirement chapter, it describes detail of system requirement specification and every primary requirement. The specification uses Unified Modeling Language [3] (UML) to describe the requirement to abstract class and the behavior of each requirement.In the design and implementation chapters, I uses UML to describe the abstraction and the design of each function of message server, using class diagram to describe the static relationship between classes, using sequence diagram to describe the dynamic behavior. Primary algorithm and program difficult points are also covered.In the test related chapters, it describes the message server's test plan, test case arrangement and test report. In the test plan session, it introduces the test arrangement, test environment, bug tracking and fix plan. In the test case session, it describes the detail of message server's test case including function test case and performance test case. Finnally in the test report session, it introduces the test result of message server and also gives the primary bug and related fix solution.Finally this article summarizes the advantage of DWDM message server and also analyses the performance problem according to the test result. The possible solution of the performance problem is also described based on the analysis.
