The Design And Implementation Of Universal Programmer For M68HC08 MCUs

With the rapid development of MCU technology, various high-performance MCUs appear continuously. Among them, the M68HC08 series MCUs are new generation 8-bit ones that are of high performance and low cost, which are recommended by the company of Freescale (originally called the company of Motorola) in the last few years. They have the characteristics of quick speed, strong function, low price and power waste etc. Now more than one hundred types MCUs have entered the market. At the same time the company of Freescale is still recommending various new sub-series products to meet the vaster market need.In the exploitation stage of MCU, programmer is the essential tool for every MCU exploitation worker. The company of Freescale has provided the programmers for the M68HC08 series MCUs, but they are not accepted by the many domestic users because of high price. Now in the home market only a few programmers support Freescale MCUs and some programmers are incapable for new type MCU, so some users design the programmer for one type MCU by themselves according to their own demand, which affects the progress of exploitation. In fact, the hardware and software designs of programmers for the various types of M68HC08 MCUs are the same approximately. To shorten exploitation period for new type MCUs, designing a universal, expandable and cheap programmer is quite significant.This thesis discusses the hardware and software design of a universal programmer that fits for M68HC08 series MCUs. IT not only supports M68HC08 series MCUs but also provides a solution method of new type MCU. It first presents the history, research status and exploitation background of programmer, subsequently provides the hardware design, in succession discusses the software design of master MCU and pc, at last introduces its operation method as well as the method of add new type MCUs briefly.
