The simulation of tree motion is an important part in the simulation of natural scenery. It is a complex task and the simulation of branch breaking is one of difficulties especially. Thus, it is very valuable and meaningful to research on the branch breaking. The visual simulation of branch breaking is studied in the paper.The creation method of tree model is the basis of visual simulation of branch breaking. Generally, the tree consists of branches and leaves. Creator is selected to build branch model and leaf model based on analyzing of the existing modeling approaches and tools. And then comparing with relative platforms, Vega Prime is used to combine the branch and leaf models into a whole tree. Creator is better than other tools because it not only contains modeling toolboxes which can build model by hand, but also creates model by programming with Open Flight API. The APIs can create lots of models in limited time and shorten the time of development.The motion model of branch breaking includes three sections: the swaying model of branch, the falling model of branch and the collision detection model. The creation of these motion models are based on the theory of Aerodynamics and Newton's Second Law of Motion. Based on analyzing the existing methods of tree motion, the simulation of branch breaking is realized by object-driven simulation in Vega Prime. Aiming at the way of tree motion, the classes of motion models which are derived from Strategy are created and tree motion is controlled by public interface function compute( ). At the same time, collision detection problem can be realized by collision detection methods in Vega Prime. The visual simulation of branch breaking in Vega Prime not only shortens the time of development and reduces the work but also simulates realistically.The application of modeling tool Creator and simulation platform Vega Prime not only reduces the work and complete the simulation of tree motion vividly. Our method is reality and effective through experiments in the paper.
