To take full advantage of the application of industrial CT technology in reverse engineering (RE), a 3D Re-Construction System (3DRCS) is developed. The software system takes industrial CT images as its input and reconstructs 3D mesh model. Several optimization functions, such as mesh smoothing, mesh simplification, end face patch etc., were appended to the software, to make mesh models meet follow-up application.The general thinking and main functions of this software system are introduced at first. As the main study object, mesh model was analyzed, and element classes were established according to the topological relationship of geometric elements. For high efficiency read, store and delete, Chain Hash table was used to manage these element classes. The establishing of data structure lay a solid foundation for the further construction and optimization.Then, the methods which construct 3D mesh model from industrial CT images are introduced. MC (Marching Cubes) and MT (Marching Terahedra) algorithm were add to software, to meet demands of construction. To ensure integrity of model, two measures were taken: increasing voxels at end faces before construction and Delaunay triangulation at end faces after construction.To meet demands of applications, mesh models should be optimized after construction. The uneven mesh surface was smoothed by a new algorithm, which integrated with vertex estimation method, Laplacian smoothing and curvature smoothing. This algorithm does not only enhance the smoothing, but also preserves the feature of model.For the convenience of display, transmission and treatment, a new algorithm based on vertex estimation method was introduced to simplify mesh. And angle error control was appended to error control stage, to preserve features and smoothness of model.In the end, the introduced algorithms ware integrated to the software. And, to enhance the practical trait, the software provides various display and interactive operation functions, such as translation, rotation, scaling, section, and so on.
