Satellite optical communication is the inter-satellite communication by means of laser beam as a carrier. Compared with the traditional microwave communication, laser communication possesses more advantages such as larger volume of communication, lower power consumption, smaller in size, stronger anti-interference ability, and better secrecy and privacy. As a result, numerous researches have been conducted concerning it. Due to the characteristics of laser communication mentioned above, it has also become one of the important ways of large-capacity communication between satellites.First of all, the paper makes a comparison between space optical communication technology and that of microwave communication, pointing out the broad application prospects of space optical communication technology in the satellite communications. Then it introduces the progress of studies on this technology which has been made at home and abroad, highlighting the significance of such studies. Later the paper presents the basic principles and systemic structure of the space optical communication technology, puts forward a preliminary proposal of space optical communication system, including how to determine the length of working light, optical modulation / detection methods, ATP subsystem design and so on, and discusses the indexes and constraints of several important properties of the system.Last but not least, the paper calculates and analyzes the impact of satellite platform vibration on inter-satellite optical communication error rate, emphasizing the impact of the satellite platform as a sine vibration and free vibration of amplitude attenuation on the satellite optical communication system bit error rate when the emission is Gaussian beams in the satellite optical communication system. Based on the analyses above, a conclusion could be reached that when subjected to vibration of satellite optical communication system, the selecting of the various parameters influences the size of the error rate, which can be optimized in the design of the system.
