In recent years, with the rapid development of wireless technology and mobile communication technology, indoor location technology has been caught more and more attention. Traditional indoor location technology such as infrared technology and ultrasonic technology are complex, expensive or having unsatisfactory location accuracy. The RFID technology becomes an excellent candidate for indoor location area because of its advantages such as low-cost, non-contact, non-line-of-sight and high location accuracy. It has been recognized as the most promising application technology of this century. In addition, due to the multipath propagation and random noise interference of complex indoor environment, the high accuracy of indoor location algorithm is particularly important in the design of RFID systems.Firstly the principle of several commonly used location algorithm is introduced based on the research of RFID technology in this paper. The location accuracy of boundary tags in the existing location algorithm is low. But location of boundary tags is an important part can not be ignored, because it relates to the overall system precision. Around that problem, BVIRE algorithm is proposed by using boundary virtual reference tags. BVIRE algorithm inserts some virtual reference tags on the boundary of the indoor environment by establishing a regression equation. Then grid virtual tags are inserted and proximity maps are established to eliminate unlikely positions. Finally, the position estimations of positioning tags are obtained by weighting the position of nearby reference tags. Further more, the impact of various parameters upon location accuracy is studied, performance differences among several RFID-based location algorithm under a variety of different evaluations are analysed based on simulation.Simulation results showed that, BVIRE algorithm improved the location accuracy of boundary tags significantly without adding extra reference tags and radio frequency interference compared with VIRE algorithm.
