As a kind of short-range wireless communication technology, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification, RFID) technology was developed in the1940s and has been developing very rapidly recently. With the rapid development of wireless technology and network, mobile location-based service is getting more and more concern. Location-based service is an important application in ordinary business activities, scientific research, emergency search and rescue, and other industries. When the positioning object is located inside the building, due to the particularity of the indoor environment - there are serious indoor shelter and non-line-noise interference, the positioning accuracy of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) satellite positioning system decreases significantly. Therefore, we must use other positioning technology to solve indoor positioning problems such as infrared, wireless LAN, ultrasound, RFID, Bluetooth, mobile communication network and multimedia technologies. Among them, radio frequency identification technology has become one of the preferred indoor positioning methods because of its non-contact type and non-line of sight characteristics. The main topic of this paper is the systemic research for the theory and design of the RFID technique based indoor location system. The principal tasks and innovations are as follows:1. The paper introduces the development of the radio frequency identification technology and indoor positioning technology, describes the structure of the radio frequency identification system and the basic working principle, then analyses and compares the existing indoor location algorithm and technique.2. A 433MHz RFID indoor positioning system was designed and implemented based on the comparative analysis of indoor positioning systems. The main tasks include: (1) Overall system design: active and passive RFID system selection, band selection and location algorithm choice. (2) System hardware design: readers and tags structural design, MCU and RF module selection, circuit schematic design and PCB layout. (3) System Software Design: communication protocols based on ISO 18000-7 and background management software design based on C + +.3. Lots of experiments are made to test and verify the system, including Indoor Location Algorithm validation testing, module performance testing and system network testing. What's more, the test data are recorded and analysed to bring some improvements forward on the system's precision, accuracy and power based on the characteristics of indoor positioning system technique.4. A joint location method is proposed based on RFID and GNSS to achieve seamless positioning as an indoor positioning technology innovative application, solving the core of the network switch in seamless positioning by triggering notification execution mechanism.
