Power dividers are very important components in the wireless communication systems, which have been widely uesd in balance amplifier, balance mixer, antenna array and so on. With the great development of wireless communication systems, the conventional power divider operating at one single frequency can not meet the demands. Consequently, the study of dual-band and wideband power dividers will become the hot research.First, this arcticle introduces the background of the research about the dual-band and ultra-wideband technologies, and analyses the current status of the study on dual-band power divider and ultra-wideband power divider.Next, this thesis illustrates specifically the basic theories of Wilkinson and Gysel power divider and compares their characteristics. Meanwhile, the method of dual-band Wilkinson power divider design is introduced, and some conditions are given. Then, an unequal dual-band Gysel power divider is designed, and modified equal and unequal dual-band Gysel power dividers are proposed. The novel equal power divider is applicable to provide a wide range of band-ratios and can be easily implemented. When extending to the unequal power divider, high dividing ratio can be achieved. The equal and 5:1 unequal power dividers operating at 0.9 GHz and 2.0 GHz are designed and fabricated. The measured reaults of these two power dividers are in accord with the simulated results.Last, two novel power dividers are designed for ultra-wideband application. One introduces a quarter-wavelength short-circuited stub at the input port, which can generate two additional transmission poles at the two sides of the center of the UWB frequency, ensuring the proposed power divider can operate in the UWB range. The other adds a coupled-line at each output port, which can also get additional transmission poles in the UWB frequency. These two novel power dividers both have compact size. The measured results accord with the simulated results.
