Battlefield communications is an important application field of mobile ad hoc networks(MANET), so the requirements of the network should includes a higher overall robustness, lower cost and delay, stronger anti-interference, and more reliable safety performance. To meet this requirement, the clustering algorithms under the topology control of MANET in the battlefield environment are analyzed, and then the corresponding improved algorithms and strategies are studied. The effectiveness of these algorithms are verified by simulation. The dissertation's major work is shown as follows:1) Firstly, the paper analyzes the significance and the research background of the military communications network. Then it summarizes the current research status, development trend, demand analysis, the network structure under the battlefield communications environment based on the characteristics of military communication networks. Especially for the deployment of mobile ad hoc network under the battlefield communications environment, the characteristics, structure, key technology and mobile ad hoc network types for military requirement are analyzed.2) Secondly, the importance of the topology control in maintaining the network connectivity survivability of the MANET is introduced and the classical hierarchical clustering algorithms based on the theory of topology control are analyzed in details. Then the flexibility, adaptability and versatility by exploiting random mobility model based on the characteristics of the battlefield environment are simulated and verified.3) Lastly, a weight-based self-stabilizing clustering algorithm based on the characteristics of the communication nodes group movement under the battlefield environment by exploiting the group mobility model is analyzed and studied. The described algorithm is a distributed algorithm, in which nodes adapt the group topology change and update its state information based on the design characteristics of the group mobile nodes and node weights through the mutual interaction about the state information by complying with the specified rules. According to the mobile characteristics of the group, mobile simulation model was built. Simulations show the performance of the average survival time, average dwell time of the cluster heads and average number of cluster with the variation of node communication range and maximum mobile speed.
