With the increasingly fierce competition and the rapidly developing requirements of the audiences for relaxed consumption of information, and with the continuous development of the market mechanism and the industrialization of media itself, the ideology for mass media dissemination shall accordingly be transformed from"disseminator-based"to"audience-based", for holding the audience means possessing the market, and to take a market share. Therefore, the mass kept exploring ways of dissemination that can meet the audience's requirements. In the background, story, with its popular expression, is brought to the screen. Then the television programs entered an era of storytelling for the audience.Dr. Yuan Fang from Communication University of China once predicted that the story-based programs will replace talent show and become the new favorite program of television. Differing form the fancied movies and teleplays, the story-based program with events happened in real life is closer, even within one's touch, so that the audiences will deeply appreciate the story, feeling sad for the characters or being moved by their stories. Then,"the art of story will have become the primary sources of inspiration for humans, because the story is constantly trying to resolve the confusion in people's life and explore the true meaning of people's life".Currently, there are many researches done by people from both the industrial and academic fields. Many discussions about story-based TV programs also constantly explore proper ways of presentation. In this paper, the author put an emphasis on analyzing the natural characteristics of story-based TV programs, the existing problems and strategy for development.Story-based TV programs shall base on reality, because people in modern society have their own ideas and the ability of thinking. They do not want to deceive themselves with fancied stories. For only real stories have the charm of moving people, they are eager to hear authentic story. And they can learn the sense of worth that cherished by the majority in the society from the authentic stories.This dissertation mainly base on the method of case analysis. By giving examples, the paper aims to analyze the reason for the existence and development of story-based TV programs from the perspectives of mass culture and audience communication theories, to explain the characteristics and advantages of storytelling in story-based TV programs from several aspects as way of production, style of the host and the value orientation, and to analyze the existing problems. By making a research into the story-based TV programs, the author tries to find a way for its healthy development, thus tries to ensure a brighter future for the story-based TV programs and ensure this platform which pay more attention to the public life and promote communication between people exist quite well.
