Nowadays wireless network has gradually become an indispensable part of our daily life. Recently, the technology of wireless networking has developed rapidly. Changes in the wireless network deployment environment bring on new demands on the wireless networking technology. Because the stable end-to-end link which is the basis of traditional data transmission does not exist for most of the time in these new network scenarios. Considering the sparseness of nodes in these new applications of Ad Hoc Network, we call them Sparse Ad Hoc Networks. Sparse Ad Hoc Networks are scenarios of delay tolerant networks which appeared in recent years.Sparse Ad Hoc Networks have some characteristics, such as frequently interrupted, a large communication delay, and poor in security. At the same time, the node itself has its limitations in computing, storage and communication capacity. Sparse Ad Hoc Networks have great application prospects in the scientific research, military and so on, but it is vulnerable against attacks, so it is particularly important to ensure the security, and message authentication is an important tool to ensure network security and availability. Focusing on the characteristics of Sparse Ad Hoc network, this dissertation does some deep research on message authentication technology. The main content and the original techniques are as follows:1. We discuss the disadvantage of using message authentication technology of traditional wireless network in Sparse Ad Hoc networks.2. We propose a source node authentication scheme for Sparse Ad Hoc Networks. It is based on elliptic curve pairings, Through analysis and proof,we know this scheme can resist the forgery attack, and needs no certificate in key management, it also has better performance in saving computing power and communication bandwidth.3. We propose a hop-by-hop message authentication scheme for Sparse Ad Hoc Networks. In this scheme, each node guarantees the message's security to its downstream node. Through analysis and proof,we know this scheme is secure and has better performance in saving computing power and communication bandwidth.
