Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is an all-weather, all-time high-resolution microwave remote sensing imaging radar. It has been widely used in military reconnaissance, terrain mapping, resource exploration and other fields. The airborne SAR system is one of the hot SAR applications in recent years. In order to meet the control needs of the flight experiment, this paper is focused on the study of design and implementation of a control software for an airborne SAR. The control software can provide a visual operate platform and the subsystem simulation interfaces for the experiment. The design of the software for the airborne SAR experiment controlling is introduced in this paper. Firstly, the function of the control software is analysed. To the needs of the commissioning and flight experiment based on the semi-physical simulation system, detailed requirements are given from the main tasks, technical specifications, communication interface and so on. Then, an overall design of control software is introduced. The structure and process of each module are designed separately. Secondly, a visual operate interface is achieved, and the control software is impement using the Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 as a development tool. Finally, the reasonable operation and accurate timing and the validity of data transfer way of the control software are studied, and the solution method of reliable communication between software and real-time system is given. In the course of the experiments, the debug technique and the improvement are taken. Currently, the control software has been successfully used during the ground commissioning and flight experiments of the airborne UWB SAR.
