IR imaging simulation plays a key role during developing and manufacture of precision-guided weapons. The paper focuses on IR imaging real-time simulation of sea-sky background and targets. The main content includes: geometric modeling of sea-sky, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and its plume, IR offline computing models of sea-sky, the skin of UAV and its plume, and realistic texture IR-image generating based on texture images and the corresponding infrared data fusion.The basis of IR imaging simulation is geometric modeling of sea-sky and targets. It achieves the implementation of infinite sea supporting of any roaming through combining the water modeling based on statistical model and projection grid which is improved in the paper. An adaptive sky dome modeling method is proposed based on the analysis of some traditional sky modeling methods and a plume rendering method based on geometry and particle system is presented.The IR modeling of sea-sky and targets is the core of IR imaging simulation. In this paper, simplify IR models of sea-sky background and UAV-skin by making reasonable assumptions based on the principle of IR to make these models can be off-line pre-calculated, which greatly enhances simulation speed, and its rationality is described. In addition, simplify UAV-plume IR model based on measured IR data.Generate realistic texture IR-image of sea-sky and UAV-plume by modulating IR-data using the corresponding texture image. The IR-data of UAV-skin will be mapped to the gray scale to render the intermediate result, and then obtain the IR-image of UAV-skin by inverse mapping. Finally, synthesize the IR-image of sea-sky background and targets through superimposing each target in accordance with certain criteria based on the IR-image of sea-sky background while simulating some detector imaging feature.
